Girls and parents looking for more than just recreation this summer can build leadership skills, confidence and character at Girls are Great summer program run by the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore.

The Girls are Great program brings the joys of Girl Scouting and Girl Scout camp to the girls of Lakewood Girls benefit from an all-girl environment and organized activities such as sports, swimming, performing arts, and nature and science which increase self-confidence; all while having fun and building friendships.

Attendees do not need to be Girl Scouts; the program is open to all girls who wish to have fun and make life-long memories this summer.

This year Girls are Great returns to Georgian Court University. The girl will enjoy all the beautiful campus has to offer. Air conditioned classrooms, theater, sports fields and indoor pool.

The program is in session from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, rain or shine. Free transportation is available. Financial Aid is available to those that qualify.

Lakewood's six-week program is for girls entering grades K through 7 with a new leadership program for girls entering 8th grade, begins on July 6 through August 14th.

The girls will enjoy many engaging activities, such as water color, jewlery making,sculpture,adventues in science and conservation, team building and sports.

Girls entering the 8th grade will have an opportunity to enter a leadership program for the first two weeks of the program and help the younger girls as program aids for the remainder of the summer.

Send in the registration form by mail or you can drop it off at our Toms River Service Center on Old Freehold Rd or in person on any of our Sign up dates at the Lakewood Publid Library.

Saturday April 24th from 10am-2pm, Wed May 5th from 3pm-6pm, Wed May 12th from 3pm-6pm or Saturday May 22nd from 10am-2pm

Note to Girls:

This Summer will offer a return of some favorite themes and exciting new ones.

Our Feathered Friends: Once again we will work with Cornell Labs observing and learning about birds.

America the Great Melting Pot: Discover and Celebrate what our families brought to America to make it great.

The Wonders of Water: Water is essential to life and we take it for granted every day. Learn about water and how to conserve it.

Cast of Characters: Each group will explore a different literary theme,like Dr Seuss, Harry Potter or Alice in wonderland.

Carnival: A week of fun and games

The Girls got Talent: A week of exploring our star qualities in preperation for our Art and Talent Show.

Of course every day we will still have, sports and games, swimming, science and nature, art class and our new feature Performing Arts!

We will also have new campfire dinner programs, that will include a trip to Camp Sacajawea
