Safety Procedures and Guidelines

Girl Scouts have been having safe and successful product sales for more than 70 years. Our policy is to follow all Council and Safety-Wise procedures. Safety-Wise is the book of national safety guidelines from Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.

  • Written permission must be obtained from a girl's parent or guardian before the girl participates in a council product sale. Complete and return the permission slip to your troop product sales manager.
  • Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts must be accompanied by an adult when taking orders and delivering them. Note: Daisy Girl Scouts do not participate in product sales.
  • Teen Girl Scouts may use the Buddy System and must be supervised by an adult. Girls must never go by themselves to sell a product. Always tell your parent/guardian when and where you are selling and when you will return home.
  • Sell products in familiar areas and neighborhoods and only during daylight hours.
  • Never enter anyone's home or apartment.
  • Follow safe pedestrian practices, especially when crossing streets or walking along roadways.
  • Girls should use only their first names. Girls must never give out their addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses or troop meeting information to customers. If necessary give the troop number and a council phone number, either (732) 349-4499 or (732) 938-5454.
  • Never sell or advertise cookies on the internet. (You can send emails about your product sales activities to family and friends.)
  • Collect money when you deliver the product, not before.
  • Carry money in your money envelope. Money should be given to the accompanying or supervising adults so girls are not walking around with large amounts of cash.
  • Be identifiable as a Girl Scout. Wear your uniform or membership pin when selling Girl Scout products.
