Product Sale Tips
Product sales teach girls to set short-term and long-range goals both as a troop and as individuals. Product sales teach them about money management and marketing skills, which will prove useful in their future! Girls also learn to plan and work together as a team. Additionally, they earn individual recognition in the form of patches, cookie bucks or other product sale theme-related items.
Here are some tips on how you can help your troop set sales goals:
- Early in the fall or when the troop organizes, the troop leader should brainstorm with the girls and help them decide what activities they would like to do. These should include current as well as long-range plans. Don't forget to consult Shore Thingsand your service unit calendar for ideas.
- Show the girls how to find out how much these activities will cost. They will need to be thorough, considering transportation, tickets or registration fees, lodging, food, etc.
- At a troop meeting, the leader or a Girl Scout, should compute how many packages of cookies and nut items the troop will need to sell to earn the money for their planned activities.
- Have the girls record their goals on the troop's Goal Chart (included in the leader's registration packet). Display this chart at troop meetings during each sale.
- Be sure to share the troop's plans with parents. Parents have a key role in the success of product sales and can help implement troop plans and goals.
- Review your progress each week of the sale. What needs to be done to reach the troop's goal?
