Calla Aniski

Calla met with the county engineer’s office and her local government officials to begin the process of creating painted crosswalks for pedestrians. She also created a petition for supporters and opened a website to provide information to the community. Calla learned never to give up when planning a project. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Daphne Bistrimovich

Daphne shared her enthusiasm for court sports with girls ages 5 to 18. She organized and conducted workshops which included set up, rules of the court, court safety and sportsmanship. Daphne has learned that she is a good leader and that preparation and good planning are very important. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Emily Bourke

Emily worked with Morgan Neill to teach young students ways to avoid spreading germs. They also collected toiletry donations for needy families. They planned and ran a family kickball tournament/health fair. Emily learned that she is able to be in a leadership position and work well with others. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Alissa Cappelleri

Alissa implemented a bi-monthly bowling league for children with special needs. She wanted an activity that would require them to utilize communication and motor skills while having fun and being part of a team. She acquired many skills and learned that good communication is vital. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Christen Carpenter

Christen transformed a rundown room into a Christmas Wonderland for the military children of NWS Earle. Remembering her own childhood memories, she strived to provide the same experience for these children. She learned the importance of planning, scheduling and prioritizing. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Devin Carrick

Hope…Security…Safety…these are the ideas Devin presented to the freshman class of Middletown High School, in the hopes of making teens think about options other than suicide. Devin felt a great sense of accomplishment in completing this project and realized her inner-strength. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Chelsea Cook

Chelsea worked with Kelly Shoemaker and Allyson Sharp to build livestock pens for the county fair. Chelsea wanted to raise awareness on the importance of saving farm land to raise livestock. She also took part in the fair, working with goats. Chelsea learned the mechanics of using tools to create the pens. She also realized that cooperation is key in a project such as this. Carisa D'Adamo

Carisa worked with Marissa Todd visiting senior citizen hospice patients in various facilities. Carisa provided crafts, aromatherapy, movies, and music. She also read to them or just sat and talked. She learned that she has great compassion and patience, and experienced joy in making a difference in someone’s life. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Kaitlyn Devrous

By heading a community-wide food collection for the Jackson Food Pantry, Kaitlyn challenged Jackson youth to actively participate in volunteer efforts. She spoke to individuals and groups to stimulate interest in helping the community. She learned that goals need to be realistic and achievable, and that time management is a very important part of leadership. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Maria DiBianca

Maria worked with 4 other girls to create a media center for an Asbury Park school. She helped organize book drives that collected several hundred books and held a garage sale to help raise funds to purchase computers. She also worked with the children at summer camp, and at a local preschool. Through her efforts, these children now have access to learning resources. Maria learned that she is a leader who is capable of taking charge of a group. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Alyssa Dickerson

Alyssa noticed a lack of technology education for older generations. She helped to bridge this gap by planning and running a class on cell phones, cameras and Microsoft programs. She also educated her attendees about proper disposal of technology products, and ran a program called Cell Phones for Soldiers. Alyssa learned to use her time wisely by becoming more organized. Jenna Gasarowski

Working with 4 other girls, Jenna wanted to create a mobile media center for an Asbury Park school. She knew that the students would benefit from access to computers and books. Helping run and organize a garage sale, she raised funds so they could purchase computers. She collected books and also read to children at a local preschool. She is proud of her accomplishments and has learned perseverance. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Jillian Gasarowski

Jillian worked with four other girls and built a mobile library for an Asbury Park school. She, along with the others, organized a garage sale, collected books and ran reading programs for the children. To further bond with the children Jillian also went camping with them. Jillian learned not to take anything for granted and to appreciate all that she has. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Kylie Geis

Kylie collected gently used prom dresses, accessories and shoes. She found a location willing to help host a dress fitting for any girl who wanted to go to prom but could not afford it because of the high costs. Kylie learned to organize her time, as well as delegate jobs to others. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Cheryl Harvey

Cheryl worked with Sarah Hazelet and Normajean Lapsley to teach girls about horses and responsible horse ownership. The girls conducted an expo day, open to girls, horse owners and professionals, and also ran individual troop sessions. Cheryl learned leadership and responsibility. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Sarah Hazelet

Working with Cheryl Harvey and Normajean Lapsley, Sarah’s goal was to educate the public on proper horse care and safety. She also emphasized the benefits of working with horses, horseback riding and related careers. Sarah learned that it takes hard work and cooperation to accomplish goals. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Larisa Janoczkin

Larisa took on the responsibility of running the Monmouth Marlins Swim Team to prepare them for the Special Olympics. She accomplished this through organizing and engaging younger Girl Scouts to interact with the swimmers. Larisa learned that understanding and helping people in everyday life is very important to her. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Kimberly Kosinski

Kimberly ran a workshop for families with children. She spoke about topics such as healthy eating habits, healthy living habits, exercise, safety and making good choices. She also purchased yarn and recruited a group of local senior citizens to make baby blankets, which she then donated. Kimberly learned about organization, leadership skills and time management. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Lin Kristensen

Lin created a magazine to educate people about the health benefits of tea, its history, tea parties and tea etiquette. It included a ‘Guide to Throwing Your Own Tea Party,’ which is available online. Lin feels that this project improved her time management and leadership skills. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Normajean Lapsley

Normajean worked with Cheryl Harvey and Sarah Hazelet to plan and run a horse expo day. She demonstrated grooming, hoof cleaning and exercise – some of the important aspects of owning a horse. She learned confidence and to believe in herself. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Courtney Leedom

Courtney met and worked with homeless people, spending quality time with them and even preparing meals for them. She also collected clothing, food and personal hygiene products, which were presented to the homeless families. Courtney learned that one person can make a difference. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Courtney Licata

Courtney designed and painted an inspirational mural in one of the rooms at the Matawan YMCA. The room is used as a classroom where kids with substance abuse problems attend a counseling program. Courtney learned that by talking to others about her project, she became creatively inspired. She also learned that she can appreciate the contributions of others on many different levels. Rachel Logan

Using puppets and other approaches that kids would understand, Rachel presented elementary school children with a program about people with disabilities. She hoped to show them that people with disabilities are not sick, just different. Rachel found that she is organized, dedicated and works well under pressure. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Alexis Marinos

Alexis planned and carried out a court sport workshop for more than 60 girls. Girl Scout participants earned the appropriate level Sports Badge. Other participants earned a fun patch. Alexis learned that you have to be ready for anything when planning and executing an event. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Kirsten Mathisen

Kirsten taught younger Girl Scouts about the importance of preserving historical sites and about gardening. She planned and managed a farm stand to sell produce grown in the Crawford House garden with all profits going to the Crawford House. Kirsten learned to be a leader and organizer. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Danielle Matteo

Danielle worked with four other girls on her project. She collected books in order to construct a ‘library on wheels’ for underprivileged school children. Danielle also helped organize a garage sale to raise funds to purchase computers and also worked with the children and supervised them at summer camp. Danielle learned to appreciate what she has and realize that others are not as lucky. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Sarah McLean

Sarah promoted music education to young students and their parents. She planned a presentation for the students, which included the middle school and high school bands, and the high school marching band. There was also a presentation for the parents. Sarah learned that she is organized and dependable. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Rosella Morabito

Rosella planned and ran a harvest celebration, including crafts and activities, for the residents of a local nursing home. She invited the community, hoping to provide them with a better understanding of the senior population. She learned that hard work pays off and that planning is essential to the success of any project. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Corie Mueller

Corie ran a workshop for moms and moms-to-be. Topics covered were healthy pregnancies, including eating healthy and exercising. Other topics included proper prenatal care, bottle versus breast feeding and car seat safety. Corie learned the two very important skills of organization and time management. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Morgan Neill

Morgan worked with Emily Bourke to plan and present a program to elementary and preschool children about germ-spreading. They also collected toiletry donations and organized a fundraiser so they could purchase more. Morgan learned that it is possible, with hard work, for a young person to make a difference. Mia O'Brien

Mia organized a coffee shop night to raise awareness of the Freehold First Aid Squad and its need for donations and volunteers. She invited medical personnel, business owners and the community. Mia learned the importance of time management when undertaking a large project. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Chelsea Parker

Chelsea taught children about exercise and how it leads to better health and self-esteem. She taught them different styles of dance. She also did chair dancing with senior citizens, providing a fun way for them to exercise. Chelsea learned that she has a real love for teaching dance and has discovered that she enjoys teaching it to any age. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Sarah Perry

Sarah, along with Andrea Ryerson, brought happiness to the retired brothers of Christian Brothers Academy’s De La Salle Hall. Special activities were planned that suited the brothers’ interests while Sarah visited and spent time with them most Sunday mornings. Sarah’s project solved the problem of the lack of younger volunteers willing to spend time with the brothers, especially the Alzheimer patients. Sarah feels that this experience taught her patience. Alyssa Petersen

With the overwhelming support of her community, Alyssa founded the Manalapan Community Garden. More than 150 vegetable plants were planted. The vegetables were then donated to the local food pantry. Alyssa learned that good communication skills are very important. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Alvine Rose Rackliff

Alvine found that residents of an assisted living facility missed the pleasure of gardening. With careful purchasing, planning and assistance from the residents’ families, raised beds were built, painted and planted with both vegetables and flowers. Alvine learned that working with Alzheimer’s and Dementia seniors requires time, patience and creativity. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Alicia Rollano

Alicia trained her dog to become a therapy dog and then enrolled her in the PAWS For Reading program. This is a program where children struggling with reading can sit in the library and read to dogs. Alicia learned to set goals and then worked to achieve those goals. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Andrea Ryerson

Along with Sarah Perry, Andrea brought joy to the retired brothers of Christian Brothers Academy’s De La Salle Hall. She planned activities that suited the brothers’ interests and spent time with them most Sunday mornings. Andrea learned compassion towards others, especially those who cannot help themselves. Allyson Sharp

Allyson worked with Kelly Shoemaker and Chelsea Cook to build livestock pens for the county fair. After collecting donations they built the pens, which they then donated to the fairgrounds. Kelly worked with Chelsea Cook and Allyson Sharp on addressing the need for more livestock pens for the county fair. They collected donations, bought supplies, built the pens, then donated them to the fairgrounds. They took part in the fair, working with goats. Kelly learned organization and persistence. Marissa Todd

Working with Carisa D’Adamo Marissa planned games and activities for the patients in hospice facilities. She used reading, music, and telling stories to engage the patients. Marissa feels she learned leadership skills. She has also become more compassionate towards her elders. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)

Kelly Wall

Kelly worked with four other girls on her project. She wanted to address the issue of literacy and the importance of providing a full educational experience for children at risk. Creating a library on wheels for underprivileged school children ensured the children would have access to books. She also worked with the children at their summer camp. Kelly has learned that she takes great pleasure in making a difference in the lives of others. (2011 Gold Award Recipient)
