Girl Scout pathways are consistent, flexible ways that girls and adults participate in the Girl Scout movement. It represents a membership strategy for recruiting and retaining more members by matching grade-level preferences and availability with flexible options. Girl Scout pathways deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to all girls supported by a comprehensive model of volunteerism.
Pathways include:
- Camp
- Events
- Series
- Travel
- Troop/Group
- Virtual

This pathway features day camp experiences that introduce and explore the out-of-doors. Day camp includes girls who are currently attending or have completed pre-kindergarten (or older), and who typically meet about five days per week in local camps such as Amity Acres Day Camp or Sacajawea Day Camp. The occasional overnight may be offered. Participation can include:
- troop camping
- individual participation in regional encampments
- individual participation at age-appropriate ecampments

Events are standalone program offerings. Activities include a day (or ocasional overnight) trip to the museum or zoo, career event for Seniors and Ambassadors, or a leadership conference for teenage Girl Scouts. The primary difference between events and all other pathways is that different girls participate in each event, as opposed to one group of girls coming together regularly.

|
Series offerings are short-term group events where the same girls participate for the entire series. These are typically multiweek programs where girls meet every other week, one time per month, etc. Series offerings may be short term or long term, but are always shorter than an academic year. During these events, girls will build on the skills learned at each session.
Examples of Series offerings include:
- Membership Outreach Programs
- Outreach based on socio-economic conditions
- Hispanic Initiative
- Lakewood groups
- After school/evening and weekend programs
- Girls Are Great
- Award Programs: Bronze, Silver, Gold
- Clubs/Interest Groups:
- Horse Club
- Rocketry Club
- Astronomy Club

The travel pathway lasts for a specific duration of time, usually two nights or more. Through this pathway, girls are provided with leadership opportunities and cross-cultural understanding through local, regional, national, and international travel. Girls prepare, plan, money-earn, and participate through group travel, council-sponsored trips, or nationally sponsored excursions. The travel pathway also facilitates appropriate progression; for example, younger girls participate in short, local trips to prepare them for longer, international trips as they progress through grade levels.

The troop pathway provides Girl Scout Leadership Experiences with the same group of girls meeting on a regular basis (one time per week, one time per month, etc.) throughout the entire Girl Scout year or a large portion, such as a school year. This pathway has a designated adult in the leadership position and provides girls the opportunity to join at any time during the troop year. Note: A troop that also goes camping or travels as a group is still operating in the troop pathway (not the camp or travel pathways); although an individual girl in a troop who wants to camp or travel may participate in any pathway she chooses.

The virtual pathway is an evolving avenue designed to be an online Girl Scout community that provides girls with the opportunity to participate in Girl Scouting without regard to geographic location. Participation could be through a Web-based platform developed by GSUSA and may include interactive and high-quality program activities in a safe, secure online environment. This pathway, when completed, will be delivered by virtual volunteers through two models:
- Group-based model will deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience via national programming, such as the journey books.
- Issue-based model will deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through progressive learning that is focused on a specific interest or topic.
